HOW DOES IT WORK?
Greenfone provides the ability to make and receive phone calls over our IP network. You will have your own UK mobile phone number. We run this small phone company on a pre-pay basis. This means you have to pay us before you can make any phone calls. This is because we cannot afford to run credit checks on people we do not know. You will need to make a payment before you can start to make calls. Payments can be made when you log in to your account. Just select the payment option.

You will need a broadband connection to the Internet. If using a soft phone, you will need a computer of some sort. If using a Wi-Fi enabled mobile device, you will need a Wi-Fi connection.

IS THIS A GSM NETWORK?
No, we operate in the un-licensed bands WiFi and WiMAX. Our suggested mobile phones do allow you to have a GSM SIM card from another operator and still use our service. See the Download section for more information.

HOW LONG WILL MY ACCOUNT STAY OPEN?
We charge £1.50 per month after the first 3 months of being a customer. If you do not make any calls on our network we will still charge you the monthly fee.

ARE THERE ANY KNOW ISSUES?
Greenfone did have some issues with receiving calls from the networks O2 & T-Mobile. Greenfone felt that the big operators were just being bad because they could. They decided not to connect any calls to our planet friendly customers unless we accepted almost no money for taking the calls, when they were quite happy to take a larger amount of money for us to send calls to them. We decided during a great tree hugging session that we would ask for help from the big cheese Ofcom. Ofcom decided that Greenfone, although small and perfectly formed, was a real mobile operator, and has told O2 that they must behave and they have to allow their customers to call our planet friendly customers. This is great news. We are hoping that T-Mobile will follow O2 and connect our calls also. We are hoping to receive calls from O2 within weeks, may be even by the end of June 2010.

We would just like to say again that 3, Orange and Vodafone have been very nice to us as a new player in this market and we thank them for it. We have decided to plant a tree for each of them. CEO's Note: Ofcom is like a "Storming Norman" type of friend. (CEO)
