HOW DOES IT WORK?
Greenfone provides the ability to make and receive phone calls over our IP network. You will have your own UK mobile phone number. We run this small phone company on a pre-pay basis. This means you have to pay us before you can make any phone calls. This is because we cannot afford to run credit checks on people we do not know. You will need to make a payment before you can start to make calls. Payments can be made when you log in to your account. Just select the payment option.

You will need a broadband connection to the Internet. If using a soft phone, you will need a computer of some sort. If using a Wi-Fi enabled mobile device, you will need a Wi-Fi connection.

IS THIS A GSM NETWORK?
No, we operate in the un-licensed bands WiFi and WiMAX. Our suggested mobile phones do allow you to have a GSM SIM card from another operator and still use our service. See the Download section for more information.

HOW LONG WILL MY ACCOUNT STAY OPEN?
We charge £1.50 per month after the first 3 months of being a customer. If you do not make any calls on our network we will still charge you the monthly fee.

ARE THERE ANY KNOW ISSUES?
At the moment we cannot receive calls from the O2 & T-Mobile network. This is because these two networks do not agree that we should be treated as a true UK mobile network for termination rates. (Termination rates is the money we receive for placing inbound calls across our network. They still demand that we pay to send calls to their network!). This is something we have to live with at the moment (March 09). A very large operator simply using their size to crush any possible competitor, however small. We have taken this up with Ofcom and are awaiting their comments. This will get resolved in the next few months. It really does show that large corporations really do not care for the small people in the world. I would just like to say that 3, Orange and Vodafone have been very nice to us as a new player in this market. (Ian MacIver. CEO)
